Sand everywhere........ Desert in Namibia. Walvis Bay to Swakopmund.

Some times the desert sand is just as beautiful as lush green forest.
These where taken on the roads around the Walvis Bay and Swakopmund area.

Where the desert meets the ocean.

Flamingos at Walvis Bay, Namibia

Stopped at the park / bike path along the water front at Walvis Bay to look at the flamingos.
There where 1000's of them as far as you could see.
Relaxing way to spend the afternoon.

Walvis Bay, Namibia Boat Trip

We did a day cruise out of Walvis Bay.
They picked us up from the motel in Swakopmund for the half hour drive to Walvis Bay.
Our catamaran and crew where great, plenty of information about everything we saw. The lunch included all the local oysters you could fit in, as well as sandwiches and assorted finger foods.
Beer, wine and soft drinks where also included.
Saw plenty of animals.....

View back to the jetty at Walvis Bay

Just out from the jetty we pulled up and this friendly guy jumped up on the back of the boat to say hello, or maybe for the fish that they had for him.....
For a wild animal he sure new how to put on a show.

This pelican came in for a feed as well, very spectacular.

As we headed further out into the bay this seal started to follow us. It managed to stay with the boat for quite a while, even when we got up to over 30km/hr.
It was a great chance to see how effortlessly the can move through the water.

As you get to the far side of the bay, you come up on an old light house. The building next to it has been turned into a motel.
You can get to here with a four wheel drive, but the boat gave a great view.

This was new to us, seeing black backed jackal's on the beach.
The seals were nervous at first as they eat the babies, but they relaxed when it seemed that they where not hungry.

There where seals everywhere, with what seemed like just as many in the water.

Big male

With flamingo's in the background.

There are also dolphins around, but as luck would have it, didn't manage to get photos as a see mist rolled in on that side of the bay.
As we headed back this seagull followed us, making for a great photo.
